Permission Marketing

"Permission Marketing" is where the promoter of a product or service obtain permissions to communicate with a potential purchaser before continuing any promotional activities. It is mostly used in online marketing in the form of obtaining someone's email address along with their permission to send them emails - although there are many variants of this.

The term was first made popular by Seth Godin in his book of the same name, published in 2007.

Permission marketing is closely related to Inbound marketing
